Rowan Oak Timber Framing

A woodworking plane resting on a piece of wood with wood shavings surrounding it.

At Rowan Oak Timber Framing, we’re a small team of passionate timber framers based in North Devon, working mostly with green oak to create handcrafted frames for homes, outbuildings, and outdoor spaces.

We’ve been doing this for years, combining traditional joinery methods with a thoughtful approach to design. Every frame is carefully built by hand—no shortcuts, just solid, honest craftsmanship. Most of our oak comes from a local sawmill we’ve partnered with for a long time, which means we know exactly where it’s coming from and how it's been treated.

Our projects range from full timber-framed houses and barn conversions to porches, pergolas, and garden structures. We also take on related landscaping work—decking, fencing, artificial grass, and other practical bits—especially if it helps tie the whole space together.

We’re not a big company, and we like it that way. You’ll deal with the same people from start to finish, and we’re happy to chat through any ideas, no matter how far along (or not) they are.

If you’re planning something and think we might be a good fit, feel free to get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.

Cameron Cree – Founder of Rowan Oak Timber Framing

Cameron Cree is a 30-year-old craftsman, father, and founder of Rowan Oak Timber Framing, a company dedicated to building beautifully hand-crafted oak structures rooted in traditional methods and timeless design.

Raised on a working farm in rural North Devon, Cameron’s early life was shaped by open fields, livestock, and the rhythm of the seasons. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, patience, and working with his hands—skills that would later shape his passion for timber framing. The connection between land, materials, and craftsmanship became central to his ethos.

Now a proud father to his young son, Rowan, and engaged to his loving partner Jess, Cameron is building a life as grounded and intentional as the structures he creates. Whether he's walking through pastureland with Rowan on his shoulders or shaping beams in the workshop, his life is deeply intertwined with family, tradition, and the natural world.

Through Rowan Oak, Cameron brings a thoughtful, sustainable approach to his craft—specializing in traditional green oak framing, heritage restoration, and bespoke design. Every project reflects his belief in quality, integrity, and working in harmony with nature.

More than just a builder, Cameron is part of a growing movement to reconnect people with place—through spaces that are made to last, made with care, and made from the land itself.
